������Ƶ is the first university in Oregon to join forces with to enhance career pathways in healthcare.

Pacific has become a partner with , an innovative training program that allows participants to develop skills necessary to excel in patient care and hospital administrative fields. The program couples online learning with practical experience at 15 healthcare sites in Oregon, Washington and California, including a site in Portland.

“Our collaboration with COPE Health Scholars reflects a shared commitment to our community as we empower learners to gain the hands-on experience necessary to prepare them to become the next generation of highly-skilled healthcare providers,” said Mary Von, vice provost and executive dean of Pacific’s College of Health Professions.

The curriculum, reviewed by faculty in the university’s College of Health Professions, includes 280 total training hours, 250 of which are in-person practicum hours in clinical settings. The program can be completed in three to 15 months and is flexible based on a student’s schedule. It provides an immersive educational experience in a clinical setting, working alongside physicians, nurses and healthcare administrators in professional settings ranging from general medical units to specialized departments.

The provides opportunities for high school students between the ages of 16 and 17 to shadow a current Health Scholar or work independently in a healthcare setting, depending on site requirements. Junior Health Scholars observe care delivery and administrative teams, and work with those teams to explore whether a healthcare career is right for them.
The program provides an entry-level experience that complements Pacific’s vast undergraduate and graduate healthcare educational offerings.
