Last week, we learned about how long-term exposure to loud noises impacts our hearing. For millions of workers, not only are they exposed to loud noises, they may also be exposed to ototoxic chemicals on the regular. Significant research and work have already been conducted by a Freedom of Expression Task Force approved by the University Council in October of 2022. In May 2025, the University Council agreed to reestablish a new task force during the 2025-26 academic year to continue this work. The Provost, as chair of the University Council, is seeking nominations of faculty and staff to fill two faculty member positions and two staff member positions. Given the scope of this project, the time commitment is estimated to be between 3-5 hours per month, but may vary depending on the progress of the work. We anticipate that the completion of this work will be spring of 2026.

The Boxer Journey Restructuring Committee invites you to learn more about our work around academic and career advising, experiential learning, and community engagement in an Oct. 21 Feedback Forum. In this session, open to faculty and staff, and accessible in-person and online, we will share what we have learned, our key recommendations, and our emerging proposed structure to support purpose-oriented learning.  Learn more here and plan to join us next week!
