Why Study Spanish?
Become part of the global community and learn one of the world’s most widely spoken languages.
As a Spanish major or minor, you can:
- Study abroad for a semester in a Spanish-speaking country and take short-term travel courses, including ones in Spain and Ecuador (see the photo above by the former student, Gaby Glasser).
- Learn from a Spanish-speaking language assistant on campus. Pacific’s language assistants, many from the Fulbright program, bring relevant cultural aspects to campus.
- Give back through community service projects and internships with the local Latinx community.
- Study with supportive faculty in small classes.
- Gain first-hand experience teaching languages in local schools.
What Can You Do with a Spanish Major?
Students who study Spanish are prepared to become bilingual professionals with careers in a variety of fields, including law, healthcare, education, international education administration, diplomacy, media and business.
Some Pacific graduates with a Spanish major have been awarded Fulbright Scholarships for postgraduate work teaching or doing research abroad.
I graduated from °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ in 2025 with a double major in biology and Spanish, and I am currently pursuing my doctorate in natural medicine, training as a primary care physician. This field draws from practices around the world, and my background in Spanish has given me more than just language skills. It has provided me with a broader perspective on how different cultures perceive health and healing. The support of my professors prepared me well for this path, allowing me to combine my love for both biology and Spanish.
