Graduate Certificates in Nonprofit Leadership

Paragraphs

Why Stackable Certificates?

Our certificates are designed for busy professionals and organizations that want targeted skill development without the commitment of a full master's degree. You might complete a single certificate to fill an immediate skill gap, or stack multiple certificates over time and eventually earn the full degree. Each certificate is individually recognized on your transcript, giving you credentials you can use right away in your current role.

The Four Certificates

The MNL program consists of four stackable graduate certificates, each building on the previous:

  1. Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership & Governance (8 credits): Learn foundational nonprofit management, personal leadership development, board governance, and people development.
  2. Graduate Certificate in Collaboration, Management & Community Engagement (8 credits): Develop skills in partnership building, people management, financial stewardship, and community engagement.
  3. Graduate Certificate in Resource Development & Program Management (6 credits): Master fundraising strategy, project management, and nonprofit operations.
  4. Graduate Certificate in Program Development, Innovation & Strategy (6 credits):  Learn to design innovative programs, build a learning culture, and develop strategy-based organizational practice.

How to Progress

You can complete the certificates on your own timeline, taking courses when they fit your schedule. Many students complete the four certificates (30 credits total) in one year of full-time study beginning in January, earning certificates along the way. Others spread the coursework over up to five years.

Converting to the Master's Degree

If you decide to pursue the full master of nonprofit leadership degree, you can convert to degree-seeking status. Here's how it works:

After completing three certificates, you can apply for degree-seeking admission. Once admitted, you'll enroll in your final certificate and NL 600: Project in Action during the same term. NL 600 is designed to allow you to apply your learning from all four certificates to a real-world nonprofit challenge, and you'll need to complete 2 credits of this course throughout your studies.

Alternatively, if you're taking certificates at your own pace and decide to pursue the degree whenever you're ready, you can enroll in NL 600 during your final term (2 credits), apply for degree-seeking status at that time, and complete your degree.
