As Logan Switzer ’25 progressed in his educational career at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ, an interest in particle physics and space sucked him in like a black hole. After a prestigious internship at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, the recent graduate is looking to grad school and a career in astrophysics.

Engineering physics major and astrophysics minor join a robust Physics & Engineering Department that offers hands-on experience. The new major and minor open to students in Fall 2023.

Following a grant from the Oregon National Space Grant Consortium, physics alumnus Huy Nguyen '21, along with Physics Professor Todd Duncan built a three-dimensional model showing the optimal orbit for spacecraft to "park" between the earth and moon. The model will be exhibited at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville.

Andrewa Noble was mathematics pioneer, attending Pacific in the 1920s and earning a PhD in mathematics in 1936. She was a a professor and chair of the °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ Math Department before her retirement in 1965. She was also chair of the chemistry, physics and math section of the Northwest Scientific Association.

Weli Alamillo '18 was excited for the chance to play soccer at the collegiate level. The chance to delve into scientific research, though, was even more exciting.

Jill (Remiticado) Uyeda '03 helped start Pacific's women's wrestling program. Today, she uses the tenacity she learned as a wrestler and the science she learned as a physics major in her construction career.
