Body

Dr. Youssef Wahib Naguib°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ School of Pharmacy is very excited to welcome our newest faculty member to our team!  On July 1, 2025, Dr. Youssef Wahib Naguib started as an Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences.  As he prepares for our upcoming 2025 -2026 academic year, we sat down with him to learn more about who he is, his interests and what brought him to °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ.

Q.  Tell us a little about your background, both personally and professionally, prior to becoming a faculty member here at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ School of Pharmacy.

A.  Before moving to the USA, I used to live in Minia, a major city in Upper Egypt by the Nile, about 150 miles south of Cairo. In 2003 I received my Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and in 2009 I earned my Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, both from Minia University in Egypt.  My favorite cities in Egypt are Alexandria and Hurghada. I used to play basketball in middle and high school, as well as college. I also played quite a bit of tennis and soccer.  I moved to the United States to get my PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from University of Texas at Austin.  After obtaining my PhD in 2015, I went on to complete my Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Texas at Austin in 2016 and University of Iowa in 2020.  I now live in Hillsboro with my wife Diana (married in 2010), and two kids (Anthony and Thomas).

Q.  What about °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ led you to wanting to join our team?

A.  What I loved about °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ School of Pharmacy is the positive energy that I found in almost all faculty and staff members during my interview visit back in March 2025. The Research Department also has a well-equipped research lab which will definitely help me establish my own scholarship program. The city of Hillsboro was very attractive during that time in March and seemed like a great place to live and I'm finding that it's still quite beautiful during the summer, as well!

Q.  As you enter the beginning of the 25/26 academic year, what excites you the most about the upcoming school year?

A.  I'd have to say meeting the new faculty and students, teaching the topics that I like the most, and getting closer to my students and helping them tackle the challenging topics in the curriculum.

Q.  Tell us some fun facts about yourself personally!  What's your favorite movie and why?

A.  It is hard to identify one single movie, but I was fascinated by the Lord of The Rings (the first 3 movies, especially the Return of the King). I loved The Christmas Chronicles, as well as Home Alone, and Dumb and Dumber movies. I also like horror movies but I don't find them necessarily attractive (for good reasons). What I do find attractive in the Lord of the Rings movies is that they fulfill every need that a movie watcher may need; including fantasy, adventure, action, war, and romance!

Q.  What was the title of the last book you read?

A.  These days, I haven't had a lot of time to read any new books, but one book that I did really enjoy was 'Different Seasons' by Stephen King.

Q.  What are some of your favorite hobbies?

A.  Aside from playing basketball and tennis and watching movies, I'm also an avid reader (when I have time) and I used to love video games.

Q.  What would you say is your favorite color?

A.  My favorite color is canary yellow!

Q.  Last, but not least, what is your favorite animal?

A.  I love dogs and cats, but especially cats. I find them quite random and super funny.
