Cabaret Headlines Pacific's Fall Performing Arts Calendar

The production of one of Broadway’s classic musicals and the debut of the university’s new director of bands headline the fall performance schedule for Ƶ’s Music, Theatre and Dance departments.

The fall slate begins with the Fall Choral Concert on Friday, Oct. 17, followed by the university’s production of Cabaret, from Oct. 23-26. Abbie Brown, assistant professor of music education and director of bands, will make her Pacific conducting debut leading the jazz band for Jazz Nite on Friday, Nov. 14. The season concludes with the university’s annual Holiday Concert on Saturday, Dec. 6.

All Music Department performances take place at 7:30 p.m. in McCready Hall in the Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center on Pacific’s Forest Grove Campus. General admission tickets for all concerts are $10. Seniors, military members and non-Ƶ students are $7. Pacific students, faculty and staff are admitted free.

Friday, Oct. 17 | Fall Choral Concert
Under the direction of Katy Green, Ƶ’s choirs will present a vibrant and exciting “collage concert.” The Chamber Singers and Concert Choir will perform a diverse program featuring works by Reena Esmail, Heinrich Herzogenberg, Ruthie Foster, Johann Michael Haydn, Traci Wong and more. The Chamber Singers will also share a stunning set of works by Rheinberger, Herzogenberg and Brahms that captures the majesty and beauty of the night sky. Listen closely and you may discover a surprising “conversation” between Herzogenberg and Brahms.

Oct. 23-26 | Cabaret

Ƶ’s Theatre Department, in collaboration with the Music Department, stages this award-winning Kander and Ebb musical under the direction of guest artist Dan Murphy, managing director and co-founder of . Cabaret is a dark, provocative story about decadence and decline in a Berlin nightclub during the rise of fascism in 1930s Germany. But as the master of ceremonies will assure you, inside the Kit Kat Club, life is beautiful. Due to mature themes, this production is recommended for ages 13 and up. Tickets are $8 for general admission and free for Pacific students.

Friday, Nov. 14 | Jazz Nite
Under the direction of Abbie Brown in her debut as Pacific’s director of bands, Jazz Nite will feature standards by prominent composers in jazz, including Gordon Goodwin (“My Man Sam”), Neal Hefti (“Lil’ Darlin’”) and Miles Davis (“Freddie Freeloader”). The concert will also feature funk, rock and Latin-inspired works.

Nov. 20-22 | Autumn Choreographers Concert
Nov. 20 & 21 at 7 p.m., Nov. 22 at 2 p.m.
The Ƶ Dance Department presents the annual Fall Choreographers Concert, a full-length dance concert performed by Pacific’s pre-professional Pacific Dance Ensemble. A livestream option will be available for the Nov. 20 concert only. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for Pacific students, faculty and staff.

Friday, Nov. 21 | Fall Orchestra Concert
Under the direction of , the Pacific Philharmonic Orchestra presents a richly textured program featuring works by British composers Edward Elgar and Christopher Wilson, and German Romantic Emilie Mayer. Elgar’s “Gavotte from Three Characteristic Pieces” charms with elegant melody and refined harmony. Wilson’s “Suite for String Orchestra” pairs structural clarity with expressive depth, and Mayer’s “Symphony No. 1 in C Minor” (1847) showcases her bold, distinctive Romantic voice.

Saturday, Nov. 22 | Fall Symphonic Band Concert
The Ƶ Symphonic Band will perform its debut concert with Abbie Brown leading the group with the program, “Light and Song.” This program features works by David Maslanka (“Illumination”) and Eric Whitacre (“The Seal Lullaby”), as well as works by Jennifer Jolley, Erika Svanoe and Davis Biedenbender.

Saturday, Dec. 6 | Holiday Concert
Close out a day of seasonal revelry at Holiday in the Grove with Pacific’s annual holiday concert. Pacific’s choirs and Symphonic Band come together for this cherished community tradition. The program will fill the hall and your hearts with festive music and seasonal favorites. Join us in your favorite holiday sweater, settle in, and let the joyful sounds of the season carry you into the holiday spirit.
