Alumni Association Board Addresses Food Insecurity, Celebrates New Executive Committee

The held its quarterly meeting Aug. 16, with new president Rhony Bhopla MFA '22 presiding for the first time. 

The new executive committee includes Jenny Johnson-Riley '98 as vice president, Rebekah Goodfellow MBA '22 as secretary, Kathy Walters '89 as university council representative and Rachel (Johnson) Boone DHS '15 as past president. 

The 22-member board welcomed new representative Kirsten Beier '07 and dedicated significant time to planning its involvement with , coming up Oct.24-26. Additionally, a major focus of the meeting was the launch of a new, year-long initiative to combat student food insecurity on campus.

Recognizing that nearly a quarter of all college students nationwide face food insecurity, the Alumni Board is working to supplement the university's existing food security efforts, including student food pantries on the Forest Grove and Hillsboro campuses. 

The initiative will champion this cause within the alumni community by sharing personal stories and hosting events to raise awareness. The Alumni Board hopes that other alumni will join in this critical work, which has already funded long-term physical resource needs for the pantries. A food drive will also be hosted during Homecoming to further support these resources.

In addition to the new food security initiative, the Alumni Board heard updates from its standing committees. 

The Archives & History committee is actively preparing to host the "Memory Archive Lab" on Friday and Saturday during Homecoming 2025, an initiative to preserve and share the university's history. 

The New Student & Enrollment Support committee is preparing to assist with upcoming Orientation visits to welcome new students. 

Meanwhile, the Awards & Scholarship committee reviewed the timeline for the nomination process. The Alumni Association Awards celebrate alumni who have made a significant impact in the world or their community or at Pacific. Awards are given biennially in three categories: the Outstanding Alumni Award, the David & Sandy Lowe Outstanding Alumni Service Award and the Emerging Leader Award. for the 2026 awards are due by Nov. 1, 2025.

The Alumni Board's continued focus on student needs and its proactive planning for key alumni events demonstrate its commitment to the °ÅÀÖÊÓÆµ community. Pacific thanks each of these 22 for their unwavering love and support for their alma mater.
